Bread Custards
A great way to use up sliced bread, these custards are so easy to make and are sure to be a winner with all the family. Why not add your favourite fruit to make them extra special.
Serves 12
Ingredients
12 slice bread
50g butter or margarine
1 egg
200ml milk, any
1 dsp sugar
Small dash vanilla essence
Method
Preheat your oven to 170°C/325°F/Gas mark 3.
Remove the crusts from the bread and butter both sides. The crusts can be used to make breadcrumbs.
Put the bread slice in a muffin tin to make a basket.
Whisk together the egg, milk, sugar and vanilla essence and pour into the bread case.
Cook for 18-20 minutes until set. Leave for 10 minutes before removing from the tin.
Food Savvy tip
For a sweeter custard try adding your favourite fruit or jam before pouring in the custard.
